Some Indonesian unions who are affiliated with the Global Union Federations (GUF) announced this month plans for upcoming organizing campaigns.
Here you can read the press release from the International Union of Foodworkers (IUF) and its Indonesian affiliate, the hotel and tourism union Federasi Serikat Pekerja Mandiri (FSPM). The press release offers a brief discussion of the difficulties the union has faced in organizing the hotel sector, particularly due to hotel closures, outsourcing, and employer resistance to organizing campaigns. These difficulties also mean a wide range of possible organizing targets, with the “overwhelming majority” of hotels in Indonesia being non-union.
Also this month, the International Metalworkers’ Federation (IMF) affiliates in Indonesia, Federasi Serikat Pekerja Metal Indonesia (FSPMI) and Lomenik, held workshops focusing on organizing strategies for the Export Processing Zones (EPZ) in Indonesia
